John D. Taylor is a Senior Consultant with the American Business Development Group, an internationally respected, full-spectrum business development consulting firm, now representing a diverse list of over fifty prominent U.S. and international businesses. American Business Development Group enjoys a reputation as the largest business development firm in the United States which specializes in the re-equipping and modernization of the United States Armed Forces. The firm has facilitated more than $680,000,000 in “new found sales” for client companies in the last year and historically each year for the last four years.
Mr. Taylor has extensive expertise in the fields of force management and integration, force modernization, strategic military planning, and homeland security with a particular focus on how these issues impact the National Guard and other United States Armed Forcess. He has worked on the staffs of the Department of the Army and the Army National Guard Directorate of the National Guard Bureau during his 33 years of military service as a Virginian Army National Guard member. He has a broad background in national defense issues, having over 16 years experience on the Department of the Army staff. John also is a Major General in the Virginia Militia and actively serves as the Division Commander of the Virginia Defense Force. Mr. Taylor also is a state representative on the Board of Directors for the State Guard Association of the United States.
While serving on the Army National Guard Directorate, Mr. Taylor was the Force Management Division Chief with responsibility for the modernization and integration of Army National Guard units in all fifty-four states to include future planning for missions and organizational changes as part of the Army force. During his last two years on the Army National Guard Directorate staff, John was the Chief Operating Officer with responsibilities in force management, training, aviation, readiness, and operations. In this capacity, he was the principal advisor to the Director of the Army National Guard for current operations and training as well as strategic planning for future missioning and modernization of Army Guard forces.
After retirement from the Army National Guard as a Colonel, he was associated with CALIBRE Systems working strategic planning and homeland security requirements for the Army and Air National Guard at the state level. In this capacity as a Senior Analyst, Mr. Taylor developed a process to determine detailed joint homeland security requirements based on functional capabilities required for each of the fifty-four Adjutants General.
A native of Emporia and now residing in Skippers, Virginia, he received a Bachelor of Science in Forestry Management, a Masters of Science in Plant Pathology and Physiology, and a Doctorate in Plant Pathology from V.P.I. and S.U. in Blacksburg, Virginia where he was a fulltime Research Associate during his graduate program. He is married to the former Shirley Chapman of Houlton, Maine and has three children.
